You could call someone for help. But first, you may be able to use ChatGPT to sort out what’s happening and find a sensible next step.
That’s the idea behind my book, Ask ChatGPT Before You Call the Kids. It’s a practical guide for adults 50+ who want help with everyday computer, phone, printer, email, and Wi-Fi problems.
Say your printer shows “Offline.” You could tell ChatGPT what kind of printer and computer you have, what the screen says, and what you’ve already tried. Then ask it to start with simple checks and explain each step in plain English. You can stop and ask another question whenever an instruction is unclear.
ChatGPT can make mistakes, so use your judgment. Don’t share passwords or verification codes, and don’t make a change you don’t understand. The goal is to help you work through a problem, one step at a time.

I’m inviting volunteer readers to try the book. When you sign up, you’ll receive download links for all three formats:
- EPUB for an ebook reader
- Mobile-friendly PDF for a phone or tablet
- Print PDF if you prefer to read or print standard pages
Download whichever format works for you. You can choose one, two, or all three.
If you read the book and feel like telling me what helped, what confused you, or what I missed, I’d welcome that private feedback. If you’d rather leave an honest Amazon review, you’re welcome to do that too. Neither feedback nor a review is required. I’m not asking for a positive review.
Interested? Use the form on my Volunteer Readers Wanted page to request your free copy. The email with your download links will arrive after you sign up.
